Welcome. Originally started as an archive for essays I wrote, john15.net is now dedicated to presenting intelligent, well-informed expositions on various topics relevant to Christianity. The scope of this site is for anyone, from the Christian who wants to know more about the Faith, to individuals who are interested in learning more about Christianity and possibly looking to call themselves Christians, to hardened skeptics who are earnestly trying to be open minded.
The primary goals for john15.net are:
(1) To edify the believer on more practical matters of faith.
(2) To teach sound Christian doctrine and theology and refute theological errors.
(3) To formulate a defense, an apologetic, for the hope I and many others hold to.
If you are looking for lovey-dovey "devotionals," you've come to the wrong place. If you want to find something that sweet and easy to read/listen to, yet is void of any meaningful content, please look elsewhere. I am interested in truth, core concepts, practical information, or else anything that can be critically examined. Life vests are recommended equipment, because I intend to rock the boat.
That is not to say I am not interesting in bringing people closer to Jesus. To the contrary, that is the primary reason I've built this site. We are indeed to love God with all our "hearts" and all of that... but doesn't the greatest commandment also include loving Him with all our mind? Much of the church, particularly in the Evangelical movement, has gotten heart heavy, but worships in ignorance. It is as though there is a sign at the entrance of our churches which say "check your brain at the door." ...And then we wonder why the world scoffs at Christianity or considers it irrelevant.
I cannot provide the solution to the problem. Too often we seek an easy "five step solution," while we fail to account for the significant fact that other people have wills of their own. Nevertheless, to those who are interested I humbly make available the wisdom granted to me from God.
Ultimately, I want to see people draw near to the Father, abide in Christ, and bear fruit by the help of the Holy Spirit. John 15:1-8 isn't just a sentimental passage, it outlines a way of life. This site exists in hopes that by the grace of God, some of you will find themselves in that life, if not further along.
