The purpose of the Reader Discussion and Feedback system is to provide readers with the capacity to voice their own voice on a subject, interact with myself or others, and present constructive criticism to my essays. This is provided as a service to you, and you are more than welcome to utilize the Discussion system freely. However, as with any freedom, the freedom here cannot exist without some restrictions... and for this reason I have set up this policy by which posts are compared to. The admin (currently only I, Justin) reserve the right to edit or delete posts which do not conform to the guidelines here; by posting it is assumed you agree to post within the parameters allowed by this page.
As an extra precaution, a post has to be approved by an administrator before it is actually displayed on the page. This means that you should expect to wait anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days before a post displays publicly.
For legal reasons, this site assumes all feedback users are over the age of 13. I ask that you don't post here if you are 13 or under, or that if you post that you don't leave a real name or any identifiable information. (Hint, you can type "Anonymous" in the name field.)
Also, at the end of this page is a brief section on features available to use in posts.
You may:
(1) Disagree with the webmaster. In fact, I hope for some constructive criticism. Just remember to anticipate that others (including myself) may disagree.
(2) Ask questions.
(3) Reply to other participants. Discussion among users is welcome.
(4) Make use of citations and URLs. In fact, if you present something that is not your own idea, I expect you to cite it. Note, however, hypertext linking is disabled in feedback.
You should:
(1) Provide either a name or an Internet nickname for the "Name" field. If you don't want to supply a name for privacy purposes, please at the very least type "Anonymous" in the name field.
(2) Keep your post relevant to the topic of the essay you are posting to. Tangents may be cautiously allowed by admin; off topic posts may be moderated. The exceptions to this rule are the feedback field for this page (which may be used for testing purposes), and on the index page, which for obvious reasons isn't tied to a specific topic.
You should not:
(1) Post any profanity or obscenity.
(2) Insult myself or another user unjustly, nor slander any person's character.
(3) Use the any title or name for God in the name field (this includes Jesus Christ). The Jews wouldn't dare speak the name of God because they were so afraid to mispronounce it. We can show some respect as well.
(4) Misuse any title or name for God.
(5) Flame, spam, advertise, or otherwise be disrupting.
(6) Post URLs to pages that contain material that is generally considered offensive.
(7) Type in ALL CAPS, l34t sp34k, or in any manner that is poor etiquette or obfuscates what you post.
(8) Argue by URL. You may present URL's to support your case, but please don't post a URL for its own sake.
(9) Post lengthy segments of another person's work. If you find an insightful article, page, or media file, go ahead and quote from it. However, we want your input: what does the quote mean, how do you understand it, and how is it relevant to the discussion?
(10) Circumvent the character limits on the name and comment fields. Feedback is intentionally capped at 4000 characters (letters, spaces, quotation marks, etc.). Please do not post back-to-back. The system is not designed for full refutations. If you wish do a lengthy or full response to one of my essays, please use your own web space, or email it to me.
Administration reserves the rights to (1) update these guidelines without notice, (2) interpret how they should apply to special cases, and (3) moderate any post which doesn't violate these rules, yet isn't constructive or inline with the purpose of the feedback system. By posting, you implicitly agree that you have read these guidelines and intend to abide to them as reasonably possible. Remember that while Freedom of Speech in public is protected in many countries, this is a private website and may limit how this site's resources are used by participants. Please do not complain if you get moderated because you violated these guidelines, though you may email a grievance to me if you think you have been unjustly moderated.
Features:
Compared to a typical web discussion board, Quick Feedback only hosts a few helpful features. Nevertheless, feel free to make use of of these. (Note: Please do not abuse these features.)
HTML is disabled. Instead, a few UBB-style codes are available:
| Code | Output |
| bold | bold |
| italics | italics |
| underline | underline |
You can also use image based emoticons. Note: due to interference problems, there must be a space before some smillies for them to work.
