Reading Your Car Policy Is Your Best Saving

Auto insurance contracts should be carefully read, examined and compared before you finally pick your choice. Invest your time in reading more before you decide and save money. Your learning will be a big investment for your financial future.

Laws and rules of your community.

You do not have to be a legal professional or an insurance representative to know You may not be fascinated by pursuing an occupation in the field of law or you do not intend to be an car insurance representative the primary laws that impact your car insurance policy. However, and as a first phase, remember that the guidelines about auto insurance vary from state to state because we all know that insurance rules are jurisdictional, which means that, what does apply to a particular state may not be the same as those adopted in another state. Check the website of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners naic.org/state_web_map.htm and look at the rules of your own state.

Three primary elements that you have to note when researching about rules affecting auto insurance policies:

1. People and vehicles we are covering.

2. Limits of coverage in case of loss.

3. Claim handling. For example if you lost your car due to a peril not insured against, then you record will be marked with a loss ‘claim’ experience. This advices you not to file claims unless you have the proper coverage for it, because they will count on your record, even with a zero pay off.

Reading the policy or, at least skimming it quickly is needed before you file it in your filing cabinet. The insurance ID card is not your auto policy. The Declaration Page is not your auto policy either. Your policy is the small booklet that attached with the initial package you received when you first purchased your auto policy.

Know exactly your coverage benefits in case you lost your car due to the incidents that the car is insured for. Insurance companies rely on facts, not feelings of who is right or wrong when they pay claims. Insurers are very good at marketing their products but they are equally good at identifying a legal way out to escape liability when you incur a loss that needs to be paid.

Important things that you have to note are the requirements before you can file your claim and the period given for you to file the claim. You might lose your claim simply because it was filed out of time.

Learn about all options

Auto insurance policies may appear the same to you but they are not. Find the time to read on the provisions of each policy and compare the benefits. This may sound tiresome, right? It’s true. Studying an insurance policy, especially with the fine prints and overlapping explanations may be boring, but you need to get familiar with it, maybe once in a while. Reading your policies is good for your financial health. The short time you need to study the policy may save you thousands of dollars. There is no doubt that the biggest discount on auto insurance is the one that you get by reading the policy. Moreover, reading your policy will make you sound like a pro among the mass majority of people who do not read their auto policies.

Aside from the price that you have to pay for the premium, consider the credibility and stability of the company. For sure, certain companies may offer you lower premiums but what if at the time that you file your claim, the company is already filing for insolvency proceedings? Actually certain companies when they are in deep financial trouble may end up taking drastic cut in premiums to get as much cash as they can, and to; unfortunately, be in further trouble later.

Know the factors that could affect your premium

Your Credit Score: Good credit score will lower your premium. Insurers give quotes in consideration of several factors such as your credit score. Not all companies check credits and you may have to examine only companies that do not check credits if you have credit issues.

Car make and model: Insurance companies charge based on certain criteria like value of vehicle, body build, performance, and engine size. Before buying a car, research on the car’s safety rating. In addition, have a current data on what cars are prone to be car napped.

Learn more about full coverage

Have you just added a $5,500 rims to your car and a $4,000 sound systems with $2,000 TVs and DVDs? All of these extras are not covered under the regular auto policy. The policy needs to be endorsed for these additions and you need to pay extra money. You insurance company assumes that, at the time you got full coverage policy, your car has not been altered, therefore, value of the vehicle is determined without extras. Ask your agent about full coverage options and if they are appropriate for your case, and what are the benefits that you can get in the event you lose your car.

US Marine killed after vehicle capsizes, sinks in Oceanside Harbor, California

Saturday, January 15, 2011

An amphibious vehicle belonging to the United States Marines capsized and sank to the floor of the Del Mar boat basin, California at 1130 PST (1930 UTC) resulting in one death and three injures.

Three instructors and three students were conducting driver training when the vehicle capsized and sank, trapping them inside. Three injured individuals were transported to hospital and two were uninjured. The deceased Marine was rescued at around 1415 PST and was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1447 PST. Oxygen was being pumped into the vehicle for hours in an attempt to keep the Marine alive.

Captain Daniel J. Thomas revealed that “There will be a thorough investigation into this mishap that occurred.” He continued, “[there will be] reports that come, lessons learned in terms of preventing anything like this from happening.” Major Thomas said that training would not be stopped, but “We’re going to take a look at this and the commander will then make a decision before anything goes back into place to make sure any safety briefing that need to be given are conducted.”

The identity of the dead Marine has not yet been revealed; the family have yet to have been notified.

Fuel leak prompts 17,000-vehicle recall by Toyota

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Toyota announced on Friday that it will recall around 17,000 Lexus vehicles in response to risks of the fuel tank in the cars leaking after a collision.

The Lexus HS 250h model was subjected to the recall following a US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigation. Despite previously passing Toyota safety inspections, the conclusions of an NHTSA sub-contracted investigator were that; when the vehicles in question collided with an object at more than fifty-miles-per hour, more than 142 grams of fuel, the maximum allowed by US law, leaked from the crashed car.

According to Toyota, further tests did not show any additional failure of the fuel tank.

In response to the findings, Toyota issued a recall of all affected vehicles, since the company had no solution immediately available. The recall includes 13,000 cars already sold, as well as another 4,000 still at dealerships.

Toyota says it plans to conduct further tests to determine the cause of the leak. A Toyota spokesman, Brian Lyons, said that the company was “still working to determine what the root cause of the condition is.” It’s still unclear when exactly the recall will take place, or when dealerships will be allowed to sell this model again. Lyons said that Toyota is “working feverishly to get this resolved as soon as possible.”

Toyota isn’t aware of any accidents stemming from the leaking fuel tank in the affected vehicles, first introduced in the summer of 2009.

Manitoba’s flood creating hazardous conditions

The Red River at Winnipeg is almost clear of ice blocks and ice jamming, however there are still dangers from the Red River flood.

Ice blocks which were as high as two storey buildings were ripping out trees, fences and railway ties. “You’ll see huge pans of ice standing vertical, up to 20 feet (6.1 m) high,” said Steve Topping, an official with the provincial Water Stewardship Department. “Ice was shoved up on the shore and took out trees with a very devastating effect. It has changed people’s view of the river.”

“It is incredible, the force. One piece of ice pushed out of the river about 20 feet. You watch the force push this up right in front of your eyes,” said Dean North, of the Selkirk Golf and Country Club.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police are ticketing sight seers who are driving through road closure signs and approaching excavators, cranes and crews breaking up the ice. Vehicles, people, boats, and kayaks are getting in the way.

An eight year old boy is in critical condition after slipping on a culvert Thursday. He was pulled underwater by the speed of the flowing water and remained under for about five to ten minutes until adults could rescue him. The air ambulance supplied by Alberta’s STARS (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society) remains in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

“This is not a spectator sport. It’s not about getting the best pictures for the family albums. I know floods are seen as a bit of an event, but some of the instances I’m hearing about, people should give their head a shake, they really should,” said Steve Ashton Manitoba Emergency Measures Minister, “Those who fall into the river or get into trouble in another way would be not only endangering themselves but the emergency response crews trying to rescue them. I don’t want to see a situation … where we’re trying our darndest to prevent flooding and save lives and somebody [who] decides to go have a white-water experience ends up killing themselves.”

Early Easter Sunday morning floodwater reached the rural municipalities of St. Andrews and St. Clements north of Winnipeg. Residents were sent an evacuation advisory Good Friday, however some residents remained. Rescue efforts commenced Saturday night to find those stranded and unable to leave as their vehicles cannot travel in the swollen overland floodwaters. Some people were rescued from roof tops as entire houses were swept off of their foundations by the large ice blocks hurtling down the river.

Highways in the area remain closed. Neil Gobelle, of Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation said to “definitely continue to watch the Red River Valley and north of the city up in the Selkirk area. Things are changing quite a bit, quite quickly, so we’ll keep an eye on those areas.”

As of Easter Sunday, Winnipeg is expected to be ice free on the Red River. The River rose 4 feet (1.2 m) in the course of 24 hours. Rain is in the forecast and the higher temperatures of 17 °C (62.6 °F) will cause melting of snow and ice.

A weather system caused by La Niña is being watched by the United States National Weather Service and its potential effects between April 16-18 for residents along the Red River Valley. “We want people to be aware there is a very real possibility of the river going higher than what is out there,” said Mark Ewens, data manager at the NWS, “To have spring floods like this back-to-back is just an unfortunate series of events that have come along to plague us this spring. We’re wanting people to understand that this is a potentially serious problem.”

SpaceX scrubs Falcon I rocket launch

Monday, November 28, 2005

SpaceX called off the much-delayed inaugural launch of their new Falcon 1 rocket on Saturday from Kwajalein’s Omelek Island launch site. The intent was to launch the U.S. Air Force Academy’s FalconSat 2 satellite, which will monitor plasma interactions with the Earth’s upper atmosphere and magnetosphere.

The launch was delayed, then finally cancelled after an oxygen boil-off vent had accidentally been left open. The oxygen was unable to cool the helium pressurant, which then proceeded to evaporate faster than it could be replenished. A main computer issue, probably serious enough to cause a scrub on its own, was also discovered.

This long-anticipated flight was originally expected to be launched in January 2005, however a series of setbacks forced a series of delays, with the flight most recently scheduled to be in early 2006. It was intended to be launched from the Kwajalein atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The maiden voyage was originally intended to launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California with a Naval Research Laboratory satellite and a Space Services Incorporated space burial payload.

Man charged with attempted murder in £40 million London jewel heist

24-year-old Aman Kassaye, of no fixed abode, is to face a charge of attempted murder for his alleged role in an armed robbery that netted £40 million ($65 million) worth of jewelry from a London store.

Kassaye is the seventh man to be charged, and is also facing prosecution for conspiracy to rob the Graff store in New Bond Street, false imprisonment, and using a handgun to resist arrest. He will appear at Wimbledon magistrates court on Monday.

The other six men have already been remanded in custody until October 23, when they will appear at Kingston Crown Court. All are facing charges of conspiracy to rob, and two of them are also charged with a firearms offense.

43 diamond rings, watches, and bracelets were taken from the store. The theft occurred when two armed and suited men walked in and took an employee hostage. It has been reported they used prosthetic masks made from liquid latex but police have not confirmed this. Amateur footage also shows a shot was fired. No-one was injured.

The robbery is one of the biggest the United Kingdom has seen. After the crime a string of getaway vehicles was used, with police believing several more offenders assisted with this stage of the plan. Although The Telegraph claims no stolen property has yet been recovered, this is also unconfirmed by police.

£5.8m Turner watercolour a British record

Tuesday, June 6, 2006

In Britain one of the most important watercolours to be put up for sale in half a century has been snapped up for £5.8 million at Christie’s (actual selling price: £5,832,000 including excess).

In “The Blue Rigi: Lake of Lucerne, Sunrise” the telephone bidder bought a softly glowing yellow sunrise in which JMW Turner trapped a moment of cause and effect – gun, dog and the flight of ducks.

“In a technique of almost unimaginable subtlety Turner expresses his lifelong preoccupation with the effects of light, shade and atmosphere,” said Noel Annesley, honorary chairman of Christie’s, who personally took the gavel for the auction.

The painting has two sister paintings also from Switzerland: The Red Rigi and The Dark Rigi. “Turner had never made any drawings like this before and never made any like them again,” said John Ruskin, the 19th century art critic, when he saw the works.

In 1842 the painting was bought by its first owner Elhanan Bicknell for 80 guineas and was in the property of its latest owners since 1942. The auction house has said they plan to keep the identity of the newest buyer, who paid slightly more than 80 guineas, secret.

In 2000 Rosetti‘s Pandora was the last most expensive watercolour ever sold in Britain – it went for £2.6m, less than half the price of The Blue Rigi.

Inspection Tips For Real Estate In Moorhead Mn

byalex

Searching forreal estate in Moorhead MNcan be frustrating and exciting, but you can cut some of the frustration by giving special attention to certain areas when looking at a potential home. If you carefully look at the property now, there will be no ‘surprises’ later. Below are the five areas to inspect when shopping for your next home.

The Electrical System

Most people assume that a newer home’s electrical system is problem-free, but that is not always the case. Electrical issues often go unseen until after the sale; when doing an inspection of a potential home, be sure to ask an electrician to check its wiring, fixtures and circuit breaker.

The Foundation

Even a newer home’s foundation can show signs of trouble long before they become readily clear. When inspecting a home, look closely at the exterior, taking notice of any cracks. Windows that fail to open and close correctly could be a sign of a shifting foundation, as can cracks on interior walls. In some cases, certain trees planted too close to the home can cause damage to its foundation.

Plumbing System

Plumbing problems are often difficult to spot and expensive to fix. Mold can form underneath sinks, causing health issues. Be sure to inspect sinks and plumbing fixtures for cracks, which allow water to get behind and underneath the sink. If your potential home has a septic system, inspect the drain field for root intrusion.

The Attic

A home’s attic can tell a lot about its upkeep and construction. If you’re looking at an older home and the attic has new insulation, it was likely replaced due to water damage. It is also easy to inspect the inside of the roof by climbing into the attic.

Home Landscaping

There should be a minimum of a 12? buffer between any landscaping and your home to prevent cracks in the foundation. If landscaping is too close to the home, water and soil make the foundation expand. When there is no water, the area contracts, causing damage.

Your home is the biggest investment you will ever make. Before making that investment, you should enlist the help of a real estate professional in Moorhead MN.

Senator David Vitter to earmark $100,000 for creationist group

David Vitter, a Republican United States Senator from Louisiana, has earmarked US$100,000 for Louisiana Family Forum (LFF), a conservative creationist organization. Vitter put the earmark into the labor, health and education financing bill for fiscal year 2008. The bill specifies the Louisiana Family Forum received the money “to develop a plan to promote better science education.”

Vitter has close ties to the LFF through Dan Richey, a former politician and the group’s grass-roots coordinator, who received $17,250 as a consultant in Vitter’s 2004 Senate race. Also Vitter’s campaign paid Beryl Amedee who is the education resource council chairwoman for the Louisiana Family Forum.

As part of the Louisiana Family Forum efforts to “combat” the teaching of evolution, the group included Kent Hovind‘s “Battle Plan” on its website. Hovind, whose education from the non-accredited Patriot Bible University is widely considered to be a diploma mill, is currently serving a ten year prison sentence for tax evasion and obstructing federal agents.

In a written statement Vitter explained, “This program helps supplement and support educators and school systems that would like to offer all of the explanations in the study of controversial science topics such as global warming and the life sciences.” However, reporter James Gill poked fun at Vitter’s admission of using the services of Pamela Martin and Associates, a prostitution service ran by Deborah Jeane Palfrey, and his recent creationist earmark. “We were better off when Vitter, in between homilies on the sanctity of marriage, was blowing his own money on prostitutes. At least the kids were safe,” Gill wrote. He continued, “They will not be if the Louisiana Family Forum gets its way.”

CyanogenMod: Open-source smartphone OS goes commercial

The developers of CyanogenMod, an open source free Android-based operating system for smartphones, announced yesterday their incorporation following a successful venture capital campaign which netted the open-source project a US$7 million nest egg, and plan to roll out a simple installation app on Google Play for their Android firmware.

Android runs nearly 80% of new mobile devices; CyanogenMod operates on at least 7 or 8 million of those. CyanogenMod replaces the read-only-memory image in android devices which have been ‘rooted’ —control acquired of the device’s superuser account— allowing continuing development for, and backporting abilities of new generations of the operating system to, older devices.

Investor Mitch Lasky wrote on his blog “We believe that CM is poised to become one of the largest mobile operating systems in the world.” Benchmark Capital and Redpoint Ventures are part of the capital providers to form Cyanogen Inc.

“The only limitation we have right now is with the number of engineers and designers we currently have. As we hire more people and build this company, we’ll be able to work on so many cool things”, said Koushik ‘koush’ Dutta, who took questions alongside Steve ‘cyanogen’ Kondik and team social media manager Abhisek “ciwrl” Devkota in a Reddit Ask Me Anything event shortly after making the announcement on the CyanogenMod blog. The team of 17, including Boost co-founder Kirt McMaster as CEO, are in Palo Alto, California and Seattle.

Kondik says Cyanogen mod is named after him. “I’m terrible with names, so I just slapped ‘mod’ onto the end of my handle and ran with it”, he explained in the incorporation announcement.

An early question raised in the Reddit event concerned profit-making: “Monetization isn’t an immediate concern and our investors […] feel the same”, said Dutta, adding “Creating disruption in a multibilion dollar market is enough to make any investor raise their eyebrow.” This means CyanogenMod would continue to be free. Follow questions asked if the company was planning to release their own model of android device. “We certainly couldn’t take on the monumental task of building/testing hardware . Hardware would be one of many potential very long term paths we could take”, said Dutta.

The firm’s first announced step is to improve the process of installing the software on owner’s devices, which Kondik described as “hideous”. A new installer app is planned to be released “in the coming weeks” on Google Play. The installer app will not require rooting the device, instead installing by simply clicking a button.

A further step, broadly described without any details, is a project with an unnamed original equipment manufacturer (OEM). “We have a least one OEM partnership in the works, there will be an announcement next week regarding our plans there”, said Kondik. The team mentioned OEM licensing several times during the Q&A session on Reddit.

In addition to these corporate steps, there were questions regarding the roadmap for development of the ROM, which already has improvements regarding privacy and security over the native android loader. With “plenty of things in the product pipeline already” Dutta lists additional security features, AirPlay mirroring, screen recording, and Voice+ as upcoming. The mood throughout the event was jovial, with humourous questions such as “can you guys PLEASE release a CM build for my toaster? I’m not sure what model it is, but it’s white and I got it at Savers.” Kondik promised “Ship it to me and I’ll duct tape a G1 running CM to it”. Dutta said his “10 of your favorite lines of source code” are “The ones that worked when they shouldn’t have.”
