As The Patio Cushion Is Water Proof It Dries Off Easily

Submitted by: Kenny Leichester

A patio is not a part of the garden, but is completely separate from it. It has a concrete floor and so it is often mentioned as an outdoor room where you can relax with your family and friends. Indeed, patios have always been utilized for outdoor eating and recreational purposes. Therefore, it has always been furnished accordingly. Today however, with the improvement in technology, patio furnishing has taken up a new dimension. Now, every item you use in the patio is weatherproof, fade proof, dirt and dust resistant.

First let us see the patio furniture. There is no need for you to drag the furniture in and out after and before each outdoor session as they are made weather proof. It is also the same with the patio cushions. These cushions are made in such a way that they are water and fade resistant and they are also dirt and stain proof. These patio cushions are made keeping all the kinds of weather in mind. Hence even if you leave them out in the heaviest of heavy rains they will not take much time to dry.

And why talk about getting drenched in rain only? Although these cushions are stain resistant, thanks to the critters and kids, they need a run down with the hose off and on. How much stain can they resist? The birds may perch on them and the squirrel or the cat may find them cozy. Then there is your pet dog and the kids to worry about. In short, there can be hundreds of ways a patio cushion can get dirty and if that happens, all it should take is a simple spray with the garden hose and minutes to dry them off.

There are lot of other important feature of the patio cushions and one among them are that it has to be tear resistant. The birds tend to perch on them or the rodents will try to nestle on them but they must not be able to make any hole in them. When you look for outdoor cushions, check for all the below given points.

It has to be water opposing both inside and out; at the same time the covering as well as the filling should be at least 98% water proof.

It must be UV resistant because it may not fade easily

It needs to be stain resistant so that you need not spend much time in cleaning it everyday

At the same time the cleaning process is also very easy, a simple spray with the garden hose can clean whatever dust that accumulates on them

It needs to be tear resistant so you need not be continuously be afraid of the critters making hole in them

The color of the patio cushion is the next consideration. You need to select a patio cushions according to your other patio accessories, especially with the patio umbrella. In the recent days all the houses which have the patio have an umbrella to make the outdoor living more comfortable. The other patio accessory which is now very popular is the patio heater. Even if you have those entire fixture you can never turn the winter cold into the warmth of spring, but they help to make the life more comfortable for you outdoor.

Install different kinds of heating arrangement in the patio. You can try out the ready-made fire pits and fire bowls. At the same time there are fireplaces for open-air use too. A few of them run on electricity while others use real wood. There are all ones that have ceramic logs but the fire is made by using liquid petroleum gas or any other inflammable liquid. But people use these patio heaters that look more like a mushroom on a long stalk than anything else does

Such type of patio heaters are run either on electricity or on propane gas. These patio heaters also come in various sizes. You can also have a small heater to be kept on the tabletop. These heaters naturally heat up a smaller area. Though the heating capacity of a patio heater is only depended on the BTU it has. For instance, a propane heater with 40,000 BTU will be able to heat up an area with 7m radius quite well. However, such a heater is generally floor standing. Tabletop heaters cannot heat up that much

You can enjoy the gift of the nature through out the year buy getting a suitable patio heater. Because in the winter it is cold and in the early spring or late fall also it is too cold to sit out till late in the night. On the contrary to what you think, a patio heater does not cost that much and mainly if you are to compare that with the pleasure it provides. With a help of the patio heater you can never have late night parties out of doors now or you can even simply sit out with your partner once the chores are over to watch the stars traversing the sky or the sun rising from under the horizon. If you feel that it sounds that much too romantic to be real? In any case you can atleast comfortably sit out to watch the birds flying south or the first spring flower which comes out if you have a patio heater

Nine dead after small plane crashes in New Zealand

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Monday, September 6, 2010

Nine people died in New Zealand after a small tourist plane crashed on Saturday afternoon on the West Coast of the South Island, killing all on board. The aircraft, a Fletcher FU24 owned by a local sky diving company, crashed and caught fire at 13:15 local time soon after taking off from the Fox Glacier Airport to carry out tandem skydiving over the Fox Glacier. The cause of the accident is not yet known, but the plane banked, dipped, smashed nose-first into the ground, and burst into flames.

There were four overseas tourists on the plane, from Australia, England, Germany, and Ireland. The five New Zealanders were the pilot and four divemasters. Police spokeswoman Detective Sergeant Jackie Adams said that the victims were so badly burned that members of the police disaster team had to be called in to assist. She was trying to track a group of tourists who were to have gone on the flight, but wanted to go together as a group so let those who died go ahead of them.

The plane crash was the worst in New Zealand for nearly 17 years. The regional coroner Richard McElrea was travelling to the crash scene to begin inquiries, and the Transport Accident Investigation Commission has dispatched a team of six investigators. The probes may take a year to complete. There was a similar crash near Fox Glacier when a helicopter crashed killing seven people in October 1994, and a crash near the nearby Franz Josef Glacier in October 1993 which killed 9 people. Because of the earthquake in Christchurch the bodies had to be sent to the Auckland morgue rather than the nearer Christchurch morgue.

Historic Scottish island castle wins the lottery

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

The UK’s Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) announced today a grant of £4.6 million towards the restoration of Lews Castle on the Western Scottish island of Stornoway. Estimates suggest approximately £14 million (US$ 21.9m, € 16.2m) will be spent to restore and convert the Victorian era property into a museum with four-star hotel accommodation.

Originally built as a home for James Matheson, who made his fortune in the Chinese and Indian opium trade, the castle has lain empty, and on the at-risk register, since the late 1980s. A gap of £1.6 million in required funding remains a concern the local Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (previously, Western Isles Council) is actively seeking help from both Europe and the Scottish government.

Council leader Angus Campbell intends to press the Scottish Government on the final funding; “it would be a huge shame if all the other funding is lost”, he said. “We are optimistic about getting some European funding, which is absolutely crucial, and are asking the Scottish Government to close the funding gap.” Campbell describes what would be the first UK museum with Gaelic as its primary language as “a generational project” with benefits throughout the communities of the Outer Hebrides. Local MSP Alasdair Allan commended the council’s efforts to save Lews Castle saying they, and other agencies, “have been working tirelessly to progress plans that would ensure Lews Castle becomes both a cultural and economic asset to the islands.”

We are optimistic about getting some European funding, which is absolutely crucial

Throughout its colourful history, the castle was at one time owned by William Lever who founded Unilever. Before gifting the castle to the local people in 1923, Lord Leverhulme invested in electric lighting, central heating, an internal telephone system, and the extension of the ballroom for social gatherings. In World War II, the castle was the base for a Naval hospital and squadron of amphibious biplanes. Post-war, it spent 30 years as a technical college and school.

If the final tranche of funding is secured, in 2014 the castle will become the first-ever archive facility in the Western Isles. The collections of Museum nan Eilean (MnE) could move from their current home into the castle; items held by the National Archives of Scotland could return to their native isles. And, modern facilities would permit collections from the National Museum of Scotland and the British Museum – such as the Lewis Chessmen – to be exhibited there.

What Is Lasik Surgery?

Filed in Medicine Leave a comment

What is Lasik Surgery? by Tom Smith..Lasik surgery improves the eyesight so individuals do not require contact lenses or eye glasses. The success rate to restore the vision back to 20/20 is very high but results vary from person to person. The surgeon chosen will also have an effect on the results you achieve.Vision after laser surgery is different from the vision experienced with the used of eye glass lenses and contact lenses. Lasik surgery patients may not see as clear a picture as one would with eye glasses. On thing is for sure, Lasik surgery patients experience an immediate change in vision. Generally, recovery is much quick that other surgeries and you may be seeing better on the day of your surgery. As time passes, the results of improved vision can continue until peak. Some people have different recovery experiences though. It can take one person several days in some cases to get back to normal, while others are fully recovered almost instantly. The vast majority of the time, Lasik patients do not have to wear contacts anymore. To some extent though, age can play a factor. The greater the age of a Lasik patient, the more likely he or she will need glasses for things like reading. However, glasses or contacts are generally not required for other normal activities. There are additional procedures that can address needs of patients who wear bifocal lenses and desire not to wear reading glasses after the Lasik surgery. For example, a monovision procedure can address such needs by correcting farsighted problems in one eye and nearsighted in the other. Some side effects can occur with Lasik surgery. For example, some patients have reported seeing rings around objects that are bright. This can be magnified at night when driving. This is usually a temporary side effect and generally not a serious concern for most patients. While Lasik is intended as a permanent solution, your way of life and habits can still affect your vision in a post-Lasik surgery world. One thing that is out of your control is age. Eyes get old with your body and there is nothing you can do to stop it. However, you eye doctor can help you gauge if and when Lasik is right for you. If you vision begins to degrade there still may be a way to live life without glasses. There is a small risk involved with Lasik surgery. However, thousands of such surgeries are performed every year with very few cases that just go bad. For many, Lasik is worth the risk of the potential benefit received. While you can have Lasik surgery on both eyes at the same time, you should plan for some recovery time. Many careers are compatible with a prompt return to work after Lasik procedures. You and your doctor will have to decide when you can go back to performing your normal duties though. If you want to learn more about lasik surgery, make sure you check out information-packed site, Tennessee Lasik Surgery Guide. Boy survives flight in wheel well of Boeing 737

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

A Russian teenager has accomplished an unprecedented feat in the history of world aviation. He flew a distance of 1,300 kilometres in a wheel well of a Boeing 737 and lived. The fifteen year old Andrey Scherbakov spent two hours in the wheel well of the airplane at extreme temperature of ?50° centigrade. The rear wheels do not go all the way into the plane; the wheel merely retracts into an opening and remains exposed. The boy managed to bypass security at the Perm city airport to hide in the plane as it took off. Airport workers found the boy after the plane had landed at Moscow. He had collapsed on the tarmac.

The boy was delivered to the hospital by the airport staff and is said to be in a critical condition. His arms and legs were so severely frozen and swollen that the rescuers were not able to remove his coat and shoes. There is a probability that his hands may have to be amputated. However, according to the medical staff at the hospital, it is nothing short of a miracle that the boy survived the ordeal. The Boeing 737 has a cruising speed of 900 kilometres per hour and was flying constantly at an altitude of 10,000 metres for two hours. As a result, the boy suffered severe frostbite in both of his hands. Doctors in Ural city would have to remove his fingertips, which contracted gangrene after they had frozen, but they were committed to do everything within their power to stop it from spreading.

When Scherbakov finally came to his senses, he told the police that he had run away from his family so as to escape his alcoholic father. He said that he was wandering around the territory of the airport and noticed a hole in the fence. He fell asleep during his examination of the stowaway of the plane. He woke up when the plane was already flying. It is curious how the inspection staff and the technicians found nothing on their inspection of the aircraft just before the flight. The boy claims that he fainted soon after and came around only when the plane had landed in Moscow after traveling hundreds of kilometres from Perm.

The airport did not confirm the report. However, Moscow’s air and water transport control department said that the claim was true. A department spokesperson said that the incident happened on Friday, and the boy’s parents were immediately informed and flew into the capital on the same day.

Stowaways in wheel wells risk freezing to death after take-off or being crushed when the wheels retract. This year, a body was found in the wheel well of a jet in San Francisco after a flight from Shanghai and another body was found in Atlanta after a flight from Dakar, Senegal.

Colleges offering admission to displaced New Orleans students/LA-ND

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

Some School Fundraising Idea Involves: Wheel Of Misfortune.

Some School Fundraising Idea involves: – Wheel of Misfortune.

by

sumeshvij

Many fundraising ideas involve the enjoyment people have in the misfortune of others, as long as it is safe and no one gets hurt. This is especially true if the person suffering the misfortune is someone like your principal, coach or teacher. That’s why dunk tanks, head shaving and pie in the face remain popular fundraisers.

This school fundraising idea builds on that concept, adding to it the idea behind a popular TV shows. Here’s how it works: Make a big wheel like the one used on a popular TV show that is divided in sections, spins on an axle and has flexible plastic dividers separating each section. If making a wheel like this is difficult in your circumstances, a large pair of dice made from foam or cardboard will work just as well. A different misfortune is written on each section of the wheel or each side of the dice. The examples used earlier could work, such as, head shaving, pie in the face, or getting doused with water. Other ideas are getting wrapped in toilet paper, covered with shaving cream, covered in slime, or eating something disgusting. Celebrity participants agree to do or submit to, whatever misfortune turns up on the wheel or the dice. Your principal, coach or teachers are likely prospects. Other prospects may be the student council, team captains or other school officials. Parents may also participate. Depending on your location, other celebrities might include prominent business people, town council, mayor or police chief. The celebrity participants should only agree to do what is on the wheel if a minimum amount of money is pledged. People can pledge towards each misfortune. The more popular misfortune will raise more money. When the participant celebrity spins the wheel or throws the dice and then does the misfortune they spin or roll, the people who have pledged towards that misfortune must pay up. If you are concerned about collecting pledge payments, you may want to collect the money in advance, and have someone trustworthy hold the funds, to be turned over to the school when the task is completed. The fundraising event at which the wheel is spun and participants get sprayed, dunked, pied or whatever, should be organized so that there is a minimum of mess to clean up. You may have more options if the event is held outdoors, but indoors can be done with some planning and care. Make sure you work with school maintenance staff and get their ok before you start throwing water or pies around. The fundraising idea should be organized and promoted like any other event. Organize volunteers to do specific jobs, publicize the event in school newspapers, local papers, and other media. Decide on what misfortunes and which celebrities will participate before you publicize the event. This will increase the amount of the pledges and funds raised. This is a school fundraising idea that is unique, low cost and has the potential to raise a lot of money and be a lot of fun.

Man charged with attempted murder in £40 million London jewel heist

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Sunday, September 6, 2009

24-year-old Aman Kassaye, of no fixed abode, is to face a charge of attempted murder for his alleged role in an armed robbery that netted £40 million ($65 million) worth of jewelry from a London store.

Kassaye is the seventh man to be charged, and is also facing prosecution for conspiracy to rob the Graff store in New Bond Street, false imprisonment, and using a handgun to resist arrest. He will appear at Wimbledon magistrates court on Monday.

The other six men have already been remanded in custody until October 23, when they will appear at Kingston Crown Court. All are facing charges of conspiracy to rob, and two of them are also charged with a firearms offense.

43 diamond rings, watches, and bracelets were taken from the store. The theft occurred when two armed and suited men walked in and took an employee hostage. It has been reported they used prosthetic masks made from liquid latex but police have not confirmed this. Amateur footage also shows a shot was fired. No-one was injured.

The robbery is one of the biggest the United Kingdom has seen. After the crime a string of getaway vehicles was used, with police believing several more offenders assisted with this stage of the plan. Although The Telegraph claims no stolen property has yet been recovered, this is also unconfirmed by police.
