What To Eat To Lose Weight Successfully

Many people will like to lose weight to have a slim, attractive and healthy body. However, when it comes to doing it, they baulk at expensive gym memberships or the rigors of some starvation diets or at the idea of not being able to eat what they want.

Contrary to popular beliefs, losing weight can be a simple and uncomplicated matter. All you need to do is to bear this concept in mind. In order to lose weight successfully, you need to expand more calories than you consume. That is all there is to it. Over a period of time, you will reach your desired weight if you adhere to the concept and barring any medical conditions that make you otherwise.

So let us start with the calories you are eating everyday. You do not need to go on any starvation or fad diets. All you need to do is just to choose the food you eat more carefully.

Firstly, begin to consume less high calorie or empty calorie food and drinks. Start with avoiding sugary stuff. Consumption of sugary food and drinks will cause a spike in your blood insulin and this will cause your body to store fat. So if you need to have the cup of coffee or tea, then drink them without sugar. Yup, not even artificial sugar as that can also cause your body to accumulate fat, but is too much to explain here.

That being said, avoid any other beverages that contain sugar of any kind. That means your lemonade, soda or any syrupy drinks. Many people who have a sweet tooth can already notice a drop in their weight once they avoid all the sweet stuffs.

Next, zero in on the food you eat. Do you snack with high carbohydrate foods such as cakes, confectionaries, pastries and the likes. These foods are high in caloric content, many of them contain sugars and worse, transfat. You can do without all these. Again, if you snack with these foods frequently, and once you avoid them, you will soon see the pounds dropping away.

Stay away from alcoholic beverages. Alcohol contains plenty of empty calories which do nothing good to your health, but make you put on weight. Oh, so you thought that drinking food juices are fine. Well, they are not! Once you squeeze out the juices from the fruits, many of the fruit’s benefits are lost. The juices may contain some vitamins, but they are simply sugar drinks. As for the vitamins and minerals, you can get them from your vegetables or actual fruits.

Now that you have a caloric reduction in what you eat, let us look at some activities that you can do to ramp up your calorie burning furnace. Take your dog out for regular walks or volunteer to do it for your neighbors who have pet dogs. Do that once in the morning and evening. Let your hair down and enjoy the walk and the scenery.

Don’t like dogs? Then join a dancing class. Dancing can burn a lot of calories. Furthermore, you will get to meet new friends with the same interest and who knows, maybe even your life partner.

Whatever it is, just take up some activities which you can enjoy and keep your body moving to burn off the extra calories. These activities when done with regularity together with good eating habits will help you to lose weight gradually.

So you see, losing weight does not mean that you need to go hungry on some diets, you can still eat what you want except with some exceptions or joining expensive gyms to workout in. Losing weight can be fun and even enjoyable.

Wikinews holds Reform Party USA presidential candidates forum

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

Three men are currently seeking the presidential nomination of the Reform Party of the United States of America: small business owner Andre Barnett, Earth Intelligence Network CEO Robert Steele, and former college football coach Robby Wells. Wikinews reached out to these candidates and asked each of them five questions about their campaigns. There were no space limits placed on the responses, and no candidate was exposed to another’s responses before making their own. The answers are posted below in unedited form for comparison of the candidates.

The Reform Party is a United States third party that was founded in 1995 by industrialist Ross Perot. Perot ran as the party’s first presidential nominee in 1996, and won over eight percent of the popular vote, the highest percentage for a third party candidate since. In 1998, professional wrestler Jesse Ventura ran on the Reform Party ticket and was elected Governor of Minnesota. The party fell in prominence during the lead-up to the 2000 presidential election when it was plagued by infighting between ideological factions. In 2000, paleoconservative Pat Buchanan won the presidential nomination, and went on to receive only 0.4 percent of the popular vote in the general election. In 2004, the party opted to endorse consumer advocate Ralph Nader, but ended the year nearly bankrupt. In 2008, Ted Weill won the party’s presidential nomination, but appeared on the ballot in only one state and won a total of 481 votes.

The party is currently trying to rebuild and has opened several new state chapters. They will attempt to appear on the ballot in more states for the 2012 presidential election. The party is expected to nominate its presidential ticket during the National Convention this summer.

Migrant workers in Dominos Pizza ‘slavery’

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Friday, August 10, 2007

Eight Hungarian migrant workers sacked from a Domino’s Pizza franchise in Derby, England are said to have taken home virtually no pay for months because of illegal deductions.

The claim is refuted by the company who said in a statement “We have begun a thorough investigation during which we have scrutinised the franchisee’s employment practices. This took place with his full co-operation. The franchisee concerned is confident that he possesses the evidence required to refute these allegations. To the extent that we have been informed of all allegations and have reviewed all available evidence, we also believe this to be the case.”

The sacked workers are being supported in their claim by the workers union Unite. The union say the “there appeared to be a deliberate strategy of keeping the workers in debt to the company through a series of crippling deductions. The deductions included payments to cover the contract purchase of a car from their employer, insurance for the vehicle provided through their employer, and exorbitant rent for substandard accommodation, again provided through their employer. In addition, some workers had to pay fees of up to £180 for an “introduction” to the company. One worker earned just £5 in four months because of the constant and hefty deductions out of his wage packet. When the workers protested they were sacked.”

Some Smart Ways to Avoid Mortgage Stresses

Being smart with your mortgage helps to avoid stress and prevent loss of money. Everyone is looking to save a little bit here and there, and these tips will help you keep current with the market while looking out for your best interests regarding a home loan.

Consider Switching To A Basic Loan. There are a lot of home loan options that offer special features for people to save money. Basic loans have a lot lower interest rates and you will always be guaranteed the lowest interest rate that the provider offers.

Get A Fixed Interest Rate. If you are truly concerned about the predictions that the market interest rates will increase in the near future, then consider getting a fixed interest rate. This will fix your rate for a designated period of time and it will prevent you from getting any increases.

Try Not To Extend Your Loan. Even though times are tough for some people, resist the urge to extend your loan and reduce your payments. In the long run, you will save money on the interest that you will be charged through the years and you could also be charged a lot more if the interest rates increase in the future.

Do Not Refinance Unless It Is Absolutely Necessary. Refinancing can be extremely costly but if you think that you are paying too much on your current home loan rate then make sure the financing will pay off for you in the long run.

Google planning PayPal rival

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Monday, June 20, 2005

Financial analysts say Google is planning an e-wallet service that could eventually compete with eBay’s payment service PayPal. Google has not confirmed the development.

The rumor is a first sign of Google’s expected expansion of revenue sources to capitalize on its advertising customer base and search-engine traffic. What form that expansion will take has been a hotly debated subject for the company whose stock valuation momentarily made it the world’s biggest media company on June 7, 2005. Even Microsoft has been mentioned as a possible future competitor.

Ebay’s stock valuation dipped more than 2% on the news. Paypal currently accounts for one-fifth of the company’s revenues. But one business analyst saw potential benefit for Paypal[1], depending on exactly how the “Google Wallet” takes shape. The uncertainty underlined the lack of substantive information behind the rumor.

According to the New York Times, the CEO of a major online merchant, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, was approached by Google to take part in this service. Steve Langdon, a Google spokesperson, declined to comment.

Satellite images show destruction of Zimbabwe community

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Thursday, June 1, 2006

Human rights group Amnesty International has released satellite images showing how the Zimbabwean community of Porta Farm, which once housed some 10,000 people, has been completely destroyed. Taken in 2002 and 2006, the photos starkly contrast the previous built-up area with the empty scrubland that remains.

According to Amnesty International, residents of Porta Farm were given less than 24 hours notice to leave their homes. Human rights monitors reported that several people died in the chaotic environment of the ensuing demolitions and forced evictions. Two children were reportedly among the dead.

Zimbabwe’s forced evictions programme (called Operation Murambatsvina) has been widely condemned both within Zimbabwe and beyond. A 2005 report on Operation Murambatsvina by United Nations Special Envoy Anna Tibaijuka estimated that it has cost 700,000 people their homes or livelihoods. She was present at Porta Farm during the second day of its demolition, and was shocked by the brutality of the evictions.

Residents of Porta Farm had fought eviction in the past, winning judgements from the High Court of Zimbabwe that they should not be evicted unless the government provided suitable alternative accommodation. However the High Court dismissed a contempt of court action that attempted to stop the 2005 evictions, giving no reason.

The Zimbabwean government (led by President Robert Mugabe) says that the programme is in the public interest and was not against the law. It has denied responsibility for the deaths.

Brazilian Medicine Council against Cuban privileges

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Monday, February 14, 2005

The Brazilian Regional Council of Medicine has protested against a Ministry of Education decision to accept the diplomas of Cuban medical school graduates without subjecting them to a more rigorous evaluation process.

Under the Brazilian 44045 Edict of July 19, 1958, all students of Medicine, Brazilian or non-Brazilian, who studied in a foreign institution must undergo a strict evaluation before their professional registration is granted. The law aims to ensure that the physicians who graduated at foreign universities are properly prepared for and familiarized with the particular medical conditions of Brazil. Some diseases like malaria and dengue for example are very rare in some countries but are more common in Brazilian territory.

However the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) has come to an agreement with the Cuban government to allow medical students who studied in Cuba to go through a less rigorous examination. Furthermore the MEC wants to exempt the students from the Cuban Escola Latino Americana de Medicina (Latin American Medicine School) or ELAM located in Havana from the examination. Under the agreement, the diplomas of ELAM students would be automatically recognized as valid in Brazil. The Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed the endorsement of this agreement last year during his visit to Cuba.

The Brazilian Regional Council of Medicine from São Paulo is opposed to the idea of accepting the Cuban diplomas and is to dispute the deal in Court. The council says the government decision is unfair and disadvantages Brazilian students. It also says that the decision puts the Brazilian community at risk because of differences between Cuban and Brazilian medical education. Cuban physicians are prepared for Cuban conditions and necessities in health which differ from Brazilian ones. Additionally the council argues that the decision is against the law because the Brazilian 44045 Edict demands that all medical students from foreign schools have to pass a careful examination.

The Cuban First Secretary of Technical and Scientific Collaboration in Health, Filisberto Perez, recognizes that both Brazil and Cuba have different models of apprenticeship in medicine. However he believes that Cuba and Brazil can recognize each other’s diplomas without difficulty.

Early this year, a team of Brazilian inspectors visited the leading medical schools in Cuba to evaluate them so the degrees can be formalized.

The MEC’s decision has angered some Brazilian students. “Why would I study for two years so I could get admitted to a Brazilian school if it would be easier to “buy” my diploma in Cuba?” asks Artur Oliveira Mendes in a email sent to a academic organization. He added: “…our schools of medicine are demoralized before the president’s declaration.”

The Brazilian students who are in Cuba were selected by the PT, PCdoB, and MST.

Senator José Agripino Maia (PFL) asked the Minister of Education Tarso Genro to explain before the Senate Education Commission why the students from Cuba are being favoured by the Brazilian government.

Learn The Right Skills With Electrical Training

Filed in Human Resources Leave a comment

Any training is necessary to add essential skill sets to your current level of skills. It is the first step towards realizing your professional dreams and electrical training is no different. By undertaking training in the varied areas of electrical applications, you come face to face with scenarios and situations that you may face in the field. Electrical training courses from a reputed institute will also open the doors for you to work at reputed companies and enjoy a better life. Due to the specific knowledge gained at the institute, the demand for oneself in the industry rises, thereby incrementing his actual value with every skill he learns from thereon.

Due to the fact that there is a lot riding on the various types of electrical training courses, the institutes or colleges offering them follow stringent norms for accepting students. It is not just about connecting and reconnecting a bunch of wires. Electrical courses deal with a lot of empirical data that needs to be manipulated in various ways to get the desired results. As a result, adequate proficiency in areas of Mathematics, Physics, and English is a must as students, during the entire course duration, will have to work with calculus, network theories and be able to understand newer concepts about electricity and its applications.

Moreover, such training courses owing to their high standards of education can be quite expensive. So, before you choose a college for pursuing electrical training, take a look at companies or enterprises it is connected with. Also, it would be better if you could find out institutes that are on the recommendation list of major electrical companies. Those ways, you will get a better idea about the value addition and placement opportunities of an institute which will only make your job of choosing a college that much easier.

In case you don’t get much information on an institute’s industrial interfacing, then take a look at the course structure. Ask the authorities about the tools and technologies that they use for imparting this kind of education. Take a look at their laboratory for the appliances that are in there. After all, this is where your actual electrical skills will be developed and solidified. Take this information and cross-check it with people on the field to know if what is being provided by the college is worth taking in the first place. If the tools and technology being discussed are old, then it will not be of much use to you in the near future, so you might as well look for a trade school that gives you the up to date knowledge on electrical systems, theories, and practices.

Once you have completed your training, you will need a professional license to be able to work at reputed places. For this, you will require to take some independent tests that you need to pass in order to get a license. The course certificate also holds significance, but not as much as a professional license. Hence the presence of both the electrical training certification as well as the license will elevate your value as a skilled electrician.

Prayer does not help heart patients, study finds

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Wednesday, July 20, 2005

A multi-center US study of 748 patients, who were to undergo treatment for coronary artery disease, has found that prayer by Christian, Muslim, Jewish, and Buddhist groups had no measurable effects on the medical health of the study subjects. The prayers were conducted by established congregations and were held away from the hospitals.

The study, published in the 16 July 2005 issue of The Lancet, found that the likelihood of an adverse cardiovascular event in hospital, re-admission or death within six months was unaffected by prayer.

None of the patients were told that they were prayed for, and none of the prayer groups knew who they prayed for. Nevertheless, 67% of the non-prayer group believed they were being prayed for – a potential placebo effect that may have hidden any small differences between the two groups.

The study also examined the effects of “music, imagery, and touch (MIT) therapy” before heart surgery. Practitioners qualified to Level 1 Healing Touch taught the patient relaxation techniques and played soothing music before applying 21 Healing Touch hand positions, over a 40 minute session.

There was no significant change in the combined chance of an adverse cardiovascular event in hospital, re-admission or death within six months. However, while the set of patients was evenly split, only 7 patients who received MIT therapy died, and 20 patients who did not receive it died. The result is not highly significant due to the low overall number of people who died.

A number of studies has recently examined the possible effects of prayer, with mixed results. While some religious groups have hailed studies which found positive results [1], skeptics have challenged the very notion of scientifically examining prayer [2], and have described past studies as flawed or even fraudulent. [3]

“The mechanisms through which distant intercessory prayer might convey healing benefit are unknown”, the authors of the study explain. One hypothesis they propose for such effects are “non-local features of consciousness based theoretically around observations in quantum physics.”

The study was conducted by a team of 16 researchers at Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI), Duke University Medical Center, the Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), and seven other academic medical institutions across the United States.
