What Are Estrogen?}

Estrogen is female hormones consisting of estrone, estradiol and estriol. These are the female sex hormones and regulate their periods. Estrogen is found in both males and females, but the level is more in females, especially the ones who are able to reproduce. Estrogen is manufactured by the ovaries. It is also produced by corpus leuteum in the ovaries and placenta during pregnancy to regulate the safe delivery of the baby.

Why estrogen is important for woman?

Estrogen is very important for the health of women in spite of the dangers it can cause. Estrogen plays a vital role in developing the secondary sex characteristics of females. These characteristics generate the main difference between males and females.

It includes breasts, expanded pelvis and increased quantity of fat in the lower body. Estrogen is also responsible for less hair growth and smooth skin in females.

Each month this reproductive hormone regulates the menstrual cycle and prepares the uterus for pregnancy by making the walls of the endometrium thick. Estrogen also regulates metabolism, reduces muscles, increases fat deposition, triggers endometrial tissue growth, increase vaginal fluid, enlarges uterus, reduces the chances of bone breakage, increasse blood circulation and platelets, increases the quantity of high density lipid that cause heart problems, reduces low density lipids and increases cholesterol in bile.

After menopause, most women suffer with low estrogen levels. This leads to dried vagina, memory loss, hot flashes, tiredness, irritation and osteoporosis- decreased bone density.

Women who take estrogen in higher quantity are more prone to heart attacks, strokes, blood clotting, breast bumps, breast cancer and loss of memory.

Medical applications for estrogen:

Oral Contraceptives:

Estrogen in blood reduces the level of FSH and LH. To treat this, most oral contraceptives have estrogen and progestin.

Hormone Therapy:

These hormones are mostly offered to post menopause females to reduce the chances of osteoporosis. This therapy also reduces the symptoms of menopause which are fatigue, sweating, distress, urinary tract complications, cold sensations, hot flashes and dried vagina.

Breast cancer:

High amount of estrogen leads to breast cancer. To suppress breast cancer, the level of estrogen in the blood should be reduced.

Prostate cancer:

Since this hormone is also present in men and is not an alien for their body, it can be used to treat prostate cancer.

While taking estrogen treatment, whenever you feel intense vomiting, weakness, numbness, loss of sight, difficulty in remembering and learning things, dizziness, blood cough, difficulty in breathing, speech problems and lumps in the breast, immediately contact your physician.

How do I know if my hormone levels are too high or too low?

Talk to your doctor. Your doctor can do a physical examination and assess your health situation and symptoms. That will enable the doctor to determine if further laboratory tests are needed to check hormone levels. Those tests could be especially in order if you have a health condition such as PCOS or loss of menstrual period because of excess training or anorexia nervosa. If the tests show abnormal levels of hormones, your doctor can prescribe effective treatment.

Wikinews interviews former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson, presidential nominee of the Libertarian Party

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Monday, November 5, 2012

With the U.S. presidential election looming, former New Mexico governor and current Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson spoke with Wikinews reporter William S. Saturn on an assortment of economic, foreign, and social issues. In the interview, Johnson makes his final plea to voters before they cast their ballots on Election Day, November 6.

Though a member of the Libertarian Party in the early 1990s, Johnson was elected and re-elected governor of New Mexico in 1994 and 1998 as a Republican. During his governorship, he vetoed over 750 bills, more than all other then-governors combined, and left the state with a $1 billion budget surplus. He briefly ran for president as a Republican in 2011 before rejoining the Libertarian Party to seek its 2012 presidential nomination.

After winning the nomination this past May, Johnson has campaigned throughout the nation espousing the Fair Tax, spending cuts across the board, a repeal of Obamacare, an audit of the Federal Reserve, a non-interventionist foreign policy, an end to the Drug War, and legalization of same-sex marriage. He and his running mate, Judge Jim Gray of California, have attained ballot access in all U.S. states except Michigan, where he is a write-in candidate, and Oklahoma. Nationally, he has received four percent registered-voter support in the past two CNN/Opinion Research Polls that included him with President Barack Obama, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and Green Party nominee Jill Stein. It is the campaign’s goal to reach five percent on Election Day, which will enable the party to receive ballot access and federal funding on par with the two major parties.

With Wikinews, Johnson discusses the federal budget, education, entitlements, the Syrian uprising, Mexican Drug War, same-sex marriage, the Libertarian Party, and his political future.

Wikinews interviews Buddy Roemer, U.S. Republican Party presidential candidate

Sunday, October 30, 2011

U.S. Republican Party presidential candidate and former Governor Buddy Roemer of Louisiana took some time to answer a few questions from Wikinews reporter William S. Saturn.

Roemer served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 1980s as a member of the Democratic Party. He was elected governor as a Democrat in 1987 before switching to the Republican Party ahead of the 1991 election for governor. That year, he lost the party’s primary to state legislator David Duke. After his governorship, Roemer worked as CEO of Business First Bank in Baton Rouge.

Roemer announced his candidacy for president back in July after exploring a bid for several months. He has focused his campaign on the issue of campaign finance reform, refusing to accept money from political action committees (PACs) and limiting individual campaign contributions to $100. He raised a total of $126,500 in the third quarter of 2011, far short of the $14.2 million raised by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

For his campaign, Roemer has adopted the slogan ‘Free to Lead’. He rails against corruption, special interests, and money in politics, and has expressed support for the Occupy Wall Street protests. Furthermore, he has taken issue positions in favor of fair trade, a balanced federal budget, and a strengthened national defense.

Roemer has not been invited to any national presidential debates. He has focused largely on the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire, and recently signed up to appear on the state’s primary ballot. However, a recent University of New Hampshire Survey Center poll shows him with less than one percent support in the state. Pearson Cross of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette commented, “If Buddy can exceed expectations in New Hampshire or even sneak in and steal third — that would give a boost that he could build on”.

Get The Highest Quality Sewer Main Repair Available In Arlington, Va

byAlma Abell

Septic systems play a huge role in modern homes, and have been around since the ancient times of Rome and Greece. Flushing away waste products and water has always been the cleanest way of dealing with these waste byproducts of daily living, and having a reliable septic system for your home is the most efficient way of doing just that. If your septic line has suffered from physical damage, breaks, leaks, or has a clog, then it won’t be as efficient as it should be. It can even cause damage to other areas of your home or property if it has suffered from any problems physically. Having your Arlington home’s septic line repaired when it first experiences a problem, will help ensure there’s no interruption in the waste water disposal for your home.

When your septic line clogs up, it may not require extensive sewer main repair in Arlington VA. Sometimes, these clogs can be taken care of with simple piping snakes to dislodge the clog. If the offending clog is more stubborn than usual, the contractor you hire may choose to use a high pressure hose to dislodge it from the pipe and open the septic line back up for proper water flow. Some clogs require more extensive repairs, however, and may require them to physically cut into your septic line to locate and remove the clogged portion. Handling a job like this on your own can often cause more damage than good, unless you have experience with plumbing already. This is why it’s important to have a professional handle any plumbing and septic line repairs you may require.

The best way to prevent problems from damaging your septic line or causing a situation to arise with it that would require sewer main repair in Arlington VA, is to watch what goes down your drains and toilets. Some substances and items should never be rinsed down a drain, such as dirt, rocks, oil, grease, or other items you may wash off of your hands in the sink. The same can be said for toilets, since your septic system wasn’t made to flush down solid objects that can’t degrade in your septic system’s water.

HIV-positive man receives 35 years for spitting on Dallas police officer

An HIV-positive man was sentenced to 35 years in prison Wednesday, one day after being convicted of harassment of a public servant for spitting into the eye and open mouth of a Dallas, Texas police officer in May 2006. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that no one has ever contracted HIV from saliva, and a gay-rights and AIDS advocacy group called the sentence excessive.

A Dallas County jury concluded that Willie Campbell’s act of spitting on policeman Dan Waller in 2006 constituted the use of his saliva as a deadly weapon. The incident occurred while Campbell, 42, was resisting arrest while being taken into custody for public intoxication.

“He turns and spits. He hits me in the eye and mouth. Then he told me he has AIDS. I immediately began looking for something to flush my eyes with,” said Waller to The Dallas Morning News.

Officer Waller responded after a bystander reported seeing an unconscious male lying outside a building. Dallas County prosecutors stated that Campbell attempted to fight paramedics and kicked the police officer who arrested him for public intoxication.

It’s been 25 years since the virus was identified, but there are still lots of fears.

Prosecutors said that Campbell yelled that he was innocent during the trial, and claimed a police officer was lying. Campbell’s lawyer Russell Heinrichs said that because he had a history of convictions including similarly attacking two other police officers, biting inmates, and other offenses, he was indicted under a habitual offender statute. The statute increased his minimum sentence to 25 years in prison. Because the jury ruled that Campbell’s saliva was used as a deadly weapon, he will not be eligible for parole until completing at least half his sentence.

If you look at the facts of this case, it was clear that the defendant intended to cause serious bodily injury.

The organization Lambda Legal (Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund), which advocates for individuals living with HIV, says that saliva should not be considered a deadly weapon. Bebe Anderson, the HIV projects director at Lambda Legal, spoke with The Dallas Morning News about the sentence. “It’s been 25 years since the virus was identified, but there are still lots of fears,” said Anderson.

The Dallas County prosecutor who handled the trial, Jenni Morse, said that the deadly weapon finding was justified. “No matter how minuscule, there is some risk. That means there is the possibility of causing serious bodily injury or death,” said Morse. Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins stated: “If you look at the facts of this case, it was clear that the defendant intended to cause serious bodily injury.”

Contact with saliva, tears, or sweat has never been shown to result in transmission of HIV.

A page at the CDC’s website, HIV and Its Transmission, states: “HIV has been found in saliva and tears in very low quantities from some AIDS patients.” The subsection “Saliva, Tears, and Sweat” concludes that: “Contact with saliva, tears, or sweat has never been shown to result in transmission of HIV.” On Friday the Dallas County Health Department released a statement explaining that HIV is most commonly spread through sexual contact, sharing needles, or transfusion from an infected blood product.

Finding Quality Industrial Weighing Equipment

Filed in Bird And Pest Control Products Leave a comment

byAlma Abell

Finding the right weighing scales for business should be simple and, in many cases, it is. However, finding a high quality weighing scale manufacturer is also important when it comes to finding the right scales for your business. In many industries, the weighing process is an essential part of the firm’s core business, so making the right choices and the right investment is advisable.

Industry specialists

Industrial scales come in all shapes and sizes and are designed to suit a huge range of industries. Some weighing scale manufacturers operate in specific industries – medical, scientific or food processing – while others operate across a range of industries. The latter can be a sensible choice for most industries as this means the firm should have the knowledge, experience and expertise to help you choose the right scales for your process.

Ongoing support

Many manufacturers offer maintenance and servicing options; for those who rely on their weighing equipment for day to day operational purposes this can be a significant factor in choosing the right manufacturer. Constant use is likely to mean regular maintenance checks are required and repairs will also be needed on an occasional basis. Given that industrial scales are likely to be a significant investment, it’s worth ensuring your scales remain in perfect working order.

Future proofing

There are several factors that will influence the capacity of scale that you’ll need. As an investment, it’s worth choosing a capacity that is higher than your current needs. This has two advantages; firstly it offers flexibility if load requirements change in the future and secondly it avoids overloading scales on a regular basis (and consequent damage or loss of accuracy).

Reputation counts

The quality of a manufacturer’s products and their reputation and experience within the industry are essential factors to consider when choosing the right firm to supply your weight equipment needs. While it’s likely that well respected and experienced firms may offer more expensive solutions, it’s important to remember that your scales are likely to be essential to your ability to make profit and that their lifespan is a crucial aspect of the purchasing decision.

Specialist knowledge

Today most firms will offer a range of scales and weighing equipment that can work within automated process. A firm that has experience and technical knowledge in this field will be essential if this is a requirement of your process.

The bottom line

While price will, in many cases, be a significant factor, weighing equipment can be a crucial element within your process and, as in so many areas in life, paying the highest price is likely to make for the best long term investment.

Hardy Process Solutions is headquartered in San Diego, California and the firm is renowned for its inyears.

Wikinews interviews Professor Gigi Foster about pandemic control in Australia

Wednesday, August 11, 2021

On July 22, Wikinews interviewed Professor Gigi Foster of School of Economics at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia about measures that the government took to stop the spread of COVID-19, a virus that caused what the World Health Organization declared a pandemic last year.

Professor Foster is on faculty with the School of Economics at the University of New South Wales. She wrote an Op-Ed in the Sydney Morning Herald, arguing for a case against the so-called “lockdowns” – measures which the state governments in Australia were implementing to stop the spread of COVID-19. These measures included things like limiting the size of gatherings, directing certain business types such as gyms to close or operate at reduced capacity, limiting where people may travel and restricting residents to only leaving their home if they have a reasonable excuse to do so.

In New South Wales, these restrictions were implemented as Public Health Orders, signed by Brad Hazzard, the Minister for Health and Medical Research. Mr Brad Hazzard has authority make these Orders under the Public Health Act 2010, section 7.

Wikinews reached out to Professor Gigi Foster, asking for comment.

The interview was conducted amid an outbreak of COVID-19 in New South Wales, that has resulted in an increase of restrictions from June 26. At the day of interview, residents were legally allowed to go outdoors only for essential shopping, medical care, and exercise, in groups of no more than two people unless of a common household. On July 28, authorities extended these restrictions until the end of August.

The current outbreak of the COVID-19 Delta strain started from ‘patient zero’, reportedly a driver, which includes transporting international flight crew, as NSW Health wrote on June 16. A week later, on June 24, the driver commented that he thought that he caught the virus from a local cafe, where another patron was visibly unwell.

New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian has said that “our mission is to allow our citizens to live as safely and freely as possible”, having announced that only authorized workers — people whose occupation is essential — could leave home in selected higher risk regions in south-west of Sydney until July 30.

Work of the construction industry has been stopped for several days, and resumed this week with requirement that the construction workers get tested for COVID-19 regularly.

Latest trial of the One Laptop Per Child running in India; Uruguay orders 100,000 machines

Filed in Uncategorized Leave a comment

Thursday, November 8, 2007

India is the latest of the countries where the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) experiment has started. Children from the village of Khairat were given the opportunity to learn how to use the XO laptop. During the last year XO was distributed to children from Arahuay in Peru, Ban Samkha in Thailand, Cardal in Uruguay and Galadima in Nigeria. The OLPC team are, in their reports on the startup of the trials, delighted with how the laptop has improved access to information and ability to carry out educational activities. Thailand’s The Nation has praised the project, describing the children as “enthusiastic” and keen to attend school with their laptops.

Recent good news for the project sees Uruguay having ordered 100,000 of the machines which are to be given to children aged six to twelve. Should all go according to plan a further 300,000 machines will be purchased by 2009 to give one to every child in the country. As the first to order, Uruguay chose the OLPC XO laptop over its rival from Intel, the Classmate PC. In parallel with the delivery of the laptops network connectivity will be provided to schools involved in the project.

The remainder of this article is based on Carla G. Munroy’s Khairat Chronicle, which is available from the OLPC Wiki. Additional sources are listed at the end.
